Elle Tinkle leads four in double figures and Gonzaga women rebound to down Pacific

From staff reports

STOCKTON, Calif. – Elle Tinkle led four in double figures with 14 points and Gonzaga rebounded from its loss to San Francisco on Thursday to down Pacific 74-58 on Saturday in West Coast Conference action.

Emma Wolfram scored a season-high 13 points with 14 rebounds for her first double-double of the season and added four blocked shots, while Jill Barta added 13 points and Kiara Kudron had 12 for Gonzaga (22-5, 13-3).

The Zags dominated the boards, 54-29 and outscored Pacific in the paint 44-20.

Chelsea Lidy led Pacific (9-18, 5-11) with 18 points, GeAnna Luaulu-Summers had 15 and Desire Linnie added 10.

Gonzaga shot 45 percent overall but struggled for the second straight game from beyond the arc, hitting on just 1 of 15 attempts. Combined with the Thursday loss to the Dons, the Zags have made just one of their last 26 attempts from long distance.

Both teams got off to a slow start on offense, but a fastbreak and-one layup from Laura Stockton to Kudron made it 9-4 Zags as Pacific had only one made field goal through the first four minutes.

The Zags held Pacific scoreless for a two-and-a-half minute stretch and led 24-14 after the first quarter. Kudron paced Gonzaga early with seven points and five boards in the first.

Pacific scored the first 11 points to start the second quarter to regain the lead and after some back-and-forth, the Bulldogs led 36-35 at intermission.

But Pacific went cold in the third quarter, hitting just 2 of 14 from the field as the Zags put up a 21-6 frame to take control.

Four minutes into the fourth quarter the Zags led by 21 on a jumper from Zykera Rice, and Pacific got no closer than 12 down the stretch. The Bulldogs shot 54 percent in the second half.

The Zags host San Diego on Thursday at 6 p.m. and can nail down the conference title and the No. 1 seed in the tournament in their final home game of the season.
