Bennett should stick to playing football

Your article (Feb. 13) describing the Seahawks’ Michael Bennett myopic refusal to go visit Israel because of his support of Palestinian Arabs is the perfect reason why athletes, rock stars and other entertainment personalities should stick to their day/night jobs and leave international relations alone.

Furthermore, his illogical reasoning may lend further support to the lingering detrimental neurologic effects of playing a violent sport like football.

The Middle East is a dangerous, complex cauldron whose solutions lie with the inhabitants, not affluent Americans hanging out by Lake Washington or Martha’s Vineyard.

Basketball getting too rough for guards

The “near death” experience of Silas Melson, during the Saint Mary’s game, accentuates the need for two different men’s basketball teams at the college level. One for over 6-foot-6. Please, before someone dies. Basketball is not football.

Zags are good, but not a top 16 team

I recently moved into the Spokane area, and am enjoying the Zags’ unbeaten streak. But after seeing their performance against the Saint Mary’s team, I am concerned about how deep the Gonzaga team will go into the March Madness.

In my opinion, 10 of the top 16 teams would beat the Zags if the Zags play at last Saturday’s level. They should have blown the Gaels out. Instead, in the second half both teams played evenly – at a level lower than a top 16 team should play.

Mental mistakes, sloppiness, easy shots that were missed, and lack of a killer instinct will not allow Gonzaga into the Sweet 16.

I do hope I am wrong. Would like nothing better than to help ticker-tape Spokane. Come on, Zags. Break the Final Four ceiling.
