Resident, two dogs saved from burning Spokane Valley home

One person was injured in an early morning kitchen fire Saturday, but two dogs were rescued from the home unharmed.

The Spokane Valley Fire Department was called to the 1500 block of North University Road shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday. They found a small fire in the kitchen that damaged the stove and cabinets, but stopped the fire from spreading to the rest of the house, according to a fire department news release.

Crews removed the resident from the home when they arrived and the person was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The two elderly dogs in the home are being cared for at SpokAnimal.

Damage is estimated at $25,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
