Taylor Pierce paces Idaho women over Eastern Washington

Taylor Pierce scored 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc and Idaho overwhelmed Eastern Washington 78-51 in Big Sky play on Saturday in Moscow.

Idaho (14-11, 9-5) drilled 13 3-point field goals on 28 attempts to snap a three-game regular season losing streak to the Eagles. The Vandals opened the game up in the third quarter, as they hit five triples in the frame to turn a five-point lead at the half into a 20-point advantage heading into fourth.

Mikayla Ferenz scored 18 points with seven rebounds for Idaho, while Geraldine McCorkell added 10 points, 11 boards and four blocked shots.

Eastern’s Delaney Hodgins moved into sixth on its all-time scoring list with 14 points. moving past Vanessa Jones (1,290 points). Hodgins is now 92 points away from fifth on the all-time scoring list, which is currently held by Lexie Nelson (1,388 points).

Ashli Payne added eight points and eight rebounds for Eastern.

Eastern (14-11, 9-5) shot 31.7 percent overall, and just 27.2 percent in the second half. The Eagles hit on 5 of 19 3-point attempts.

The loss puts Eastern Washington and Idaho into a three-way tie in fourth place in the Big Sky standings with Idaho State. Fourth place receives the final bye in the Big Sky Tournament.

Eastern Washington travels to face Weber State on Wednesday at 6 p.m., while Idaho faces Idaho State on the road on Thursday at 6 p.m.
