Coeur d’Alene man sentenced to prison for lewd conduct with a child

A Coeur d’Alene man has been sentenced to up to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to having sexual contact with an 8-year-old child.

Damon E. Johnson, 40, must serve at least 18 years of the sentence before his case is eligible for review by the parole commission. Prosecutor Barry McHugh said in a written statement that the danger that Johnson will re-offend is high and Johnson “failed to take appropriate responsibility for his conduct.”

An investigation showed that Johnson had sexual contact with the 8-year-old child three times over a three-month period. He is also facing three charges of lewd conduct with a child under 16 in Bonner County. A court hearing is scheduled for that case on Monday.

Johnson’s criminal history includes convictions for lewd conduct with a child under 16, sexual abuse of a minor, custodial assault, violation of a court order, bail jumping and assault with a deadly weapon.
