Icy conditions prompt school, road closures; Spokane airport closes runway

Deteriorating conditions Tuesday evening have already prompted the closure of some roads and schools.

And the Spokane International Airport announced that its runway was closed due to ice. Almost all flights scheduled to arrive after 8:15 p.m. were cancelled or diverted to other airports.

Westbound Interstate 90 is closed at Ellensburg because of ice and avalanche danger in Snoqualmie Pass, the Department of Transportation announced Tuesday evening. The closure is expected to last at least overnight.

Numerous accidents due to freezing rain have been reported in Grant County and the Moses Lake School District will be closed on Wednesday, along with the Mary Walker School District and Valley School District.

Other school districts have announced a two-hour late start on Wednesday, including the Ritzville School District, Garfield-Palouse School District, Creston School District, Colton School District, Harrington School District, Odessa School District, Lind School District, LaCrosse School District and Washtucna School District.
