School upgrades deserved

In February, the Cheney School District is asking for our support to improve the facilities of the Cheney schools. As a community, we are lucky to have such a good school district for our kids which also benefits us in property values and in great neighbors.

Currently, our school bond taxes are fifth from the lowest in the area. With an increase of only 59 cents per thousand dollars, we would remain in the middle of the 13 area districts in school taxes. For this, we get 25 new elementary classrooms in three schools, improved security at Salnave and classrooms, gyms and an auditorium at Cheney High School. We get to keep our kids in their home schools, and we have a high school to meet the needs of kids who are career bound.

As a grandparent in the district and a lifelong educator, I know the value of a good school. I’ve visited the Cheney schools and see great teachers, great administrators and great kids. Let’s all vote yes in February to give them great schools.
