Education notebook: Mead district hosts STEM Forward event

The Mead School District will host its second STEM Forward event Friday.

This event finds fifth through eighth grade students working in teams to visit four health sciences departments and gather clues to solve a medical mystery.

This STEM Forward event takes places at the WSU Spokane campus, 668 N. Riverpoint Blvd., from 6 to 8:15 p.m. This event is full, but to place your child on a waiting list, call (509) 465-7653.

LC students qualify for Thespian festival

After presenting technical theater and performance pieces at the Washington Thespians IE East Regional Thespian Competition on Jan. 14, the following Lewis and Clark High School students qualified for state and national events and will represent the school at the State Thespian Festival at Central Washington University in March:

Micaela Ackermann, Miranda Anthony-Miller, Brianna Barrick, Audrey Bensching, Erin Chaves, Bethany Daniel, Bri Gardiner, Ethan Goins, Maleah Harshman, Bailey Heppler, Vanessa Kaufman, Alexandra Lewis, Iaine MacKay, Trevor Rau, Eric Rorholm, Jordan Santiago, Caroline Slater, MJ Smith and Claire Woodard.

Dishman Baptist pastor honored

City School Principal Dusty Andres has chosen Dishman Baptist Church Pastor Gary Bass for the West Valley School District’s Above and Beyond Award.

Bass was chosen for being a great partner to the school. Dishman Baptist Church serves as the emergency evacuation site for City School, and the congregation has helped with school supplies and with City School families in need during the holidays.

WV history teacher earns state award

West Valley High School history teacher Ned Fadeley has received the Outstanding Teacher of American History Award from the Washington State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

He will be honored at the 116th State Conference on April 28 in Spokane.
