Spokane Indians snap road streak at eight with win at Boise

From staff reports

BOISE – Curtis Terry went 3 for 5 with a homer and three RBIs and the Spokane Indians snapped an 0 for 2017 on the road with an 11-5 win over the Boise Hawks in the third of a five-game Northwest League series on Saturday.

The Indians entered play having dropped eight in a row on the road to start the season. Miguel Aparicio and Andretty Cordero added three hits apiece, and Cristian Inoa drove in three.

Spokane starter Tyree Thompson allowed one run on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts over six innings.

The Indians went right to work in the first inning off Hawks starter John Valek. With one down, Charles Leblanc drew a walk and scored on Yohel Pozo’s double. Cordero singled off third baseman Danny Edgeworth’s glove and Pozo moved up.

Kole Enright grounded to short, but Pozo scored and Cordero went to third. Cordero later scored on a wild pitch.

In the second, Terry led off with a single and took third on Austin O’Banion’s double. Inoa’s fly to center was deep enough to plate Terry, and O’Banion came around on Aparicio’s double to make it 5-0.

Spokane picked up another run in the third. Cordero led off with a double and scored on Terry’s two-out single. Terry’s two-out, two-run homer in the fifth inning – his third of the season – upped the lead to 8-0.

Boise got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, when J.B. Moss’ two-out double plated Bret Boswell, who walked earlier.

Boise’s Valek was done after five. The lefty allowed a total of eight runs on 10 hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

The Indians plated two more in the seventh against reliever Salvador Justo. With two down and the bases loaded, Inoa came through with a line-drive single to make it 10-1. In the eighth, a bases-loaded walk to Nick Kaye added another.

The teams continue the series on Sunday at 6:15 p.m.
