Kevin Twohig is retiring after 16 years as the chief executive officer of the Spokane Public Facilities District, which owns and operates the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, the Spokane Convention Center and the INB Performing Arts Center.

“Through Kevin’s leadership, the district has become a financially successful and sustainable institution providing entertainment, jobs and economic impact throughout the greater Spokane region,” Larry Soehren, chairman of the district’s governing board, said in a news release Monday.

Twohig’s last day will be Dec. 31, and the district has hired a consulting firm, Venue Solutions Group, to conduct a nationwide search for his successor.

Twohig led an expansion of the convention center and a series of improvements to the Veterans Arena. In May, he won Visit Spokane’s Leadership Excellence in Tourism award, which honors “significant achievement and historically significant contribution by someone who has impacted Spokane’s tourism industry for more than 10 years.”
