Mt. Spokane’s Knutson opens U.S. Junior Amateur with 1-under 70

Mt. Spokane High rising junior Gunnar Knutson shot a 1-under 70 Monday on the first day of stroke play at the U.S. Junior Amateur.

Knutson had three birdies and two bogeys on 7,049-yard Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kansas. He’s tied for 21st, seven shots behind Brandon Mancheno.

The top 64 after Tuesday’s second round advance to match play beginning Wednesday.
