Sheriff asks for FBI investigation fatal shooting by deputy
SEATTLE – A Washington sheriff’s is asking the FBI investigate a fatal shooting by one of his deputies.
KING-TV reported King County Sheriff John Urquhart asked for their help at a town hall where he met with the family and friends of 20-year-old Tommy Le of Burien. Le died after he was shot by deputy Cesar Molina in June.
Molina encountered Le after receiving reports of a man with a knife, banging on doors and acting erratic in a neighborhood. Deputies later discovered that he was holding a pen.
The family criticizes police for painting a negative image of Le to the media by initially stating that he had a knife.
Urquhart urged councilmembers that attended the meeting to finance body cameras for the sheriff’s office.
An inquest into the shooting will follow.
