Kennewick man dies after being struck by BNSF freight train

Associated Press

KENNEWICK – A 30-year-old man was sitting on the railroad tracks in Kennewick, Washington, when he was hit by a BNSF train. He later died from his injuries.

The Tri-City Herald reported that Travis Lepoidevin, of Kennewick, didn’t respond to the blaring of the train’s horn at about 4:50 a.m. Monday.

Kennewick police say the freight train was heading east with 60 cars. Witnesses say the street crossing bars and signal lights appeared to be working properly.

Officials say Lepoidevin died at Trios Southridge Hospital.

The death remains under investigation. The Benton County coroner says no autopsy is planned but lab tests will be done.
