Multiple agencies save 3 people who fell into Nooksack River

Associated Press

BELLINGHAM – Three people who fell into the Nooksack River in northwest Washington state were saved in a massive rescue operation.

KOMO-TV reported that several agencies worked together to rescue the three, who tumbled into the river when their craft overturned late Monday afternoon.

The three spent hours in the water before they could be brought out by helicopter.

Crews from the Bellingham area reportedly had to hack through a thick tangle of vines to reach one of the victims, who was suffering from mild hypothermia when she was rescued.

All three are expected to recover.

Agencies involved in the rescue include Whatcom County Fire District 1, the Bellingham Fire Department, the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Border Patrol and Whatcom County Search & Rescue.
