Montana man charged in infant son’s death

Associated Press

BILLINGS – A 28-year-old Montana man is charged with deliberate homicide in the May 27 death of his 7-month-old son.

The Billings Gazette reported Grant Edwin Johnson of Billings made an initial court appearance Monday. He did not enter a plea. His bail was set at $500,000.

Court records say Johnson eventually told investigators that he threw the boy on the ground because he was crying, then failed to seek medical help.

Investigators discovered that Johnson had used his phone to search online for how to perform CPR on an infant at 2:45 p.m. and again at 5:21 p.m. Emergency crews who responded to a call at 5:30 p.m. found the baby was cold.

An autopsy determined the baby died of injuries to his brain and spinal cord.
