More human remains found near Brooks Road after second search

Investigators found scattered bones and a shell casing while searching fields in south Spokane County near Brooks Road in May and June, according to new court documents.

A turkey hunter reported finding a human skull in the general area of Brooks Road and Thorpe Road on May 3. A piece of bone was missing from the back of the skull and it appeared to have been broken out rather than torn off by a scavenger, court documents say.

Investigators searched the area and found the missing piece of skull, several arm bones, a portion of a foot and some clothing.

In early June, a nearby landowner contacted deputies after finding what appeared to be a human jaw bone on his property. Another search with a cadaver-sniffing dog was launched on his land and land belonging to his neighbors on June 16.

That search turned up a pair of pants with leg bones inside, according to court documents. Other bones, clothing, a backpack and bedding were found nearby. Investigators also discovered a .45 caliber handgun and a .45 caliber shell casing.
