Man accused of shooting at a moving vehicle in north Spokane

Spokane police say they quickly arrested a 21-year-old man who fired a handgun at a passing vehicle Monday afternoon in north Spokane.

Officer John O’Brien, a spokesman for the department, said officers arrested David Medina within three minutes of being dispatched to the area of Nevada Street and Empire Avenue at about 1 p.m. A police dog was deployed to find the gun, which had been discarded nearby, and officers canvassed the area to confirm no residents were hit by stray bullets, O’Brien said.

Medina has a prior felony conviction and isn’t supposed to possess firearms. The gun recovered Monday had been reported stolen in a 2013 burglary, O’Brien said.

As of 6 p.m. Monday no one had called police to report being targeted in the shooting. O’Brien said the attack didn’t appear to be random. He urged anyone with information to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233, reference No. 20122132.
