The Spokane Chiefs announced Monday that their 2017-18 Western Hockey League season opener at home will be on Sept. 30 against the Kootenay Ice.

The Chiefs will open the season on the road against the Prince George Cougars on Sept. 22.

Spokane is 2-0 against Kootenay, including the last time they opened against the Cougars in 2004. That was also the last time the Chiefs have opened at home against somebody other than the Tri-City Americans.

Spokane is 2-0 in road openers at Prince George – winning in 2007 and 2009.

The WHL will announce its full regular-season schedule on Tuesday.
