Eastern women lose, still control tournament seeding destiny

From staff and wire reports

Kiana Johnson led four in double figures with 20 points and visiting Southern Utah edged Eastern Washington 64-63 on Wednesday.

Eastern (16-12, 11-6) still controls its destiny for a first-round bye in the Big Sky tournament next week if it can beat Northern Arizona (6-22, 2-15) on Friday.

The Eagles trailed the last-place Thunderbirds by as many as eight points in the fourth quarter. Eastern battled back to pull within a point with 3:13 left to play, but never got the go-ahead bucket to fall.

Eastern went 0 for 3 from the field on its final possession and did not score in the last 1:48.

Delaney Hodgins scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field, her 78th career game with double-digits. The forward also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and collected a pair of steals on the night.

Tisha Phillips scored 10 points, handed out six assists and tallied four steals.
