State 4A: Quarterfinals set for Central Valley girls, Gonzaga Prep boys

TACOMA – The State 4A boys and girls basketball tournament quarterfinals are set, and Central Valley’s girls and Gonzaga Prep’s boys have nice matchups.

That’s another way of saying CV and G-Prep should be playing in the semifinals come Friday.

First, though, they play Thursday at the Tacoma Dome.

G-Prep (23-1) meets Enumclaw (16-11) at 2. Enumclaw topped Inglemoor 52-43 in a loser-out opener Wednesday.

In other games, Richland (20-5), a 63-51 winner over Davis on Wednesday, meets two-time champ Federal Way (24-2); Kennedy Catholic (20-7) goes against top-seeded Union (19-4); and Kentwood (24-3) faces Curtis (21-4).

Enumclaw may be one of the youngest teams in the boys field. Late in its game against Inglemoor, the Hornets didn’t have a senior on the court.

Kaden Anderson, a 6-foot-7 forward, led Enumclaw with 23 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots.

Defending champ CV (24-0), winner of 52 straight, takes on Bellarmine Prep (24-2) at 3:45.

In other games, Kentridge (23-5) takes on Kentlake (23-4); Sunnyside (19-3) meets Glacier Peak (22-1); and the winner of Wednesday’s late game, Eastlake (19-6) and Camas (16-8), plays Moses Lake (20-3).

Shaylse Smith, a 6-1 junior wing who has committed to Arizona, led Bellarmine Prep with 24 points and six rebounds. She will be the chief priority for the Bears and will likely be guarded by 6-1 junior Hailey Christopher.

CV, which is ranked No. 16 in the CBS MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings, traveled to Tacoma on Tuesday.

“We had a great practice (Tuesday),” CV coach Freddie Rehkow said. “We’re ready to go.”

Rehkow and his players scouted Bellarmine Prep.

The Bears learned they’re 4A academic state champions for a second straight year.
