Underage party and alleged rape happened in home owned by Spokane Police detective

The home where an alleged rape occurred during an underage drinking party last month is owned by a Spokane Police Department detective.

The party was hosted by the children of Det. David Grenon the night of Feb. 25 and several people brought alcohol, according to court documents. This week police arrested an 18-year-old foreign exchange student from Germany, Sebastian Bruehl, for allegedly raping another high school student who was at the party.

Assistant police chief Justin Lundgren said the department is aware of the incident and will be looking into whether Grenon had any knowledge of the party ahead of time.

“The detective was out of town when it happened,” he said. “If he was unaware and didn’t contribute, then it doesn’t fall within the purview of our policies. We can only control the officer’s behavior, not the behavior of their families.”
