The Dirt: Big 5 taking over space in Spokane Valley

A Big 5 Sporting Goods outlet will take over space in Spokane Valley where a Hancock Fabrics store closed a year ago.

The retailer will occupy about 13,400 square feet at 15735 E. Broadway Ave. after tenant improvements, according to a building permit with city of Spokane Valley. It’s in a small retail strip near the Wal-Mart store.

Two Spokane-area Hancock Fabrics, including the one on Broadway, closed a year ago as part of a bankruptcy declared by the Mississipi-based fabric retailer. The other store was at 1020 W. Francis in Spokane.

Big 5 Sporting Goods has other area outlets at 5725 E. Sprague St. and 7501 N. Division St. in Spokane, and 101 Best Ave. in Coeur d’Alene.

Hand therapy office moves

Spokane Occupational & Hand Therapy has moved its north Spokane office to 5905 N. Mayfair in Spokane.

The provider along with its sister company Inspire Physical Therapy will occupy nearly 6,000 square feet on the first floor of a newly constructed building. McCloskey Construction Inc., of Spokane, built the structure, which is being managed by NAI Black.

The new clinic is located across the street from Holy Family Hospital and joins Spokane Occupational & Hand Therapy’s other two outlets in downtown near the lower South Hill and in Spokane Valley.

Multifamily projects sell

Two multifamily properties recently sold.

Paul and Cathy Vanstedum purchased the 4,300-square-foot residential building at 1101 W. Maxwell Ave. in Spokane.

At the other site, Issaac Wilson was the buyer of property at 612 S. Walnut St. in Spokane. That structure has nearly 7,000 square feet.
