Open house set for STA Central City Line

Spokane Transit Authority is holding a drop-in open house Thursday at Gonzaga University to show off its latest planning for a Central City Line.

The event will be at the John J. Hemmingson Center in the north ballroom from 4 to 6 p.m.

Gonzaga is on the proposed line running from Browne’s Addition through downtown to the University District and Gonzaga University and continuing to Spokane Community College, a distance of 6 miles.

Voters approved funding for the project last November. The project is expected to acquire grant funds to pay for construction. The federal funds could bring in $54 million of the $72 million capital cost.

An interactive route map and updated designs will be shown. Public feedback is being sought, in part to help locate and design stations on the route.

The buses would be modern battery-powered vehicles with rubber tires running on a fixed route.
