Shannon Wessel slugs two-run homer for Whitworth in doubleheader split

Shannon Wessel slugged a two-run home run, one of her three hits in the opener, and drove in three runs and Whitworth took the opener of a Sunday doubleheader against Willamette 9-4 in Hermiston, Oregon, before losing the second game 10-6.

Winning pitcher Madi Perez (8-0) also had three hits and Tessa Matthews drove in four runs for the Pirates (12-4, 3-1 Northwest Conference).

The Bearcats (2-5, 2-3) had 15 hits in their second-game victory.
