Common sense uncommon
Mistakenly, I always believed that those raised on farms and ranches had an extra dose of common sense. Being raised on a farm by my World War II hero father and a loving mother (they began farming after the war in the Columbia Basin, successfully transforming rock-scrabble soil into productive farm land), it grounded me with that extra dose of common sense.
As I discover, with Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers the prime example, common sense is not so common. She has aided and abetted the election of someone wholly unsuited to the presidency, to whom the “Emperor Wears No Clothes” tale is a perfect metaphor for what is so apparent: “obvious truths denied by the majority despite the evidence of their eyes, especially when proclaimed by the government.”
With McMorris Rodgers as our representative, my prayer is that she, along with her cohorts, take off their rose-colored glasses to see Trump for what he really is - a dangerous narcissist who thrives on attention and adoration by the masses with an ego that won’t allow any other viewpoint than his own. These are signs of a narrow-minded, unworldly individual who now holds the fate of our great nation (built by immigrants) in his hands. God help us all.
