Whitworth’s Kenny Love selected to participate in Division III all-star game

From staff and wire reports

Whitworth point guard Kenny Love has been selected to participate in the 2017 Reese’s Division III College All-Star Game and has been named First Team All-West Region, both by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

The Reese’s Division III College All-Star game will be played on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. prior to the NCAA Division III championship game at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virgina. The East and West teams are composed of two senior student-athletes from each of the eight regions in Division III and two seniors selected by online voting on D3hoops.com.

Love is the first Whitworth player since Michael Taylor in 2010 to play in the Reese’s Division III College All-Star Game.

Love is one of six players named to the NABC All-West Region first team. He was also an NABC First Team West Region honoree in 2014.

Love has already been named First Team All-Northwest Conference and Second Team All-West Region by D3hoops.com this year. He is one of only 14 players in the history of the NWC – along with teammate Christian Jurlina – to earn All-NWC First Team recognition for three or four years.

Love led the Northwest Conference in assists (122) this season and tied for first in assists per game (4.4). He also finished with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.8.

He averaged 12.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while making 91 percent of his free throws. In January he became the 28th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points and he finished his career 15th on Whitworth’s all-time scoring list with 1,243 points.
