What is news?
What is news? The stock answer is that news is information that somebody wants suppressed. Or something similar.
But news also has to do with the distribution of that information. So news isn’t what it has been in the past. There was a time when news was hard to come by and it required an investment to get the news out. Not anymore. We still have the mainstream media news (MSN) but it is a shadow of its former self. What to believe?
The MSN is mostly part of entertainment now. The big players still involve millions and the personalities are celebrities but there is a lack of trust. Fake news has reared its ugly head. People are aware that the government and the media have lied them into wars and who knows what else?
There is more trust in the journalists and outlets that don’t make the big bucks. And whistleblowers. There are people who make news at a personal loss. People are searching for reliable, truthful news and they think they are finding it. They are finding that facts are suspicious and they need to question more. Facts don’t persuade, but watch out for stories that do.
