Potholes, not bike trails

It’s a shame that Freya Street on the South Hill is in horrible shape, with the countless potholes, when just a little over 10 years ago, it was a brand new street created from the sewer lines up. I’m glad to read in the S-R that Mayor Condon is considering a sturdier material for repaving Freya. The old pavement was concrete and was in better shape, even with lots of cracks, than the current asphalt material.

Many streets around Spokane need repaving or at least repair. Why not concentrate on this rather than spending the money on bike trails and useless road diets? We need more efficiency when driving across town, not less. On another subject, why does the city keep putting up 20 mph speed limit signs around certain parks during the summer when kids prefer gaming on screens (my evidence is anecdotal) over playing on big toys in the parks? A good compromise would be to just put up signs, left year-round, that indicate “20 mph when children are present.”
