Home runs help Texas Rangers top Seattle Mariners
Carlos Gomez launched a two-run homer and Ryan Rua added a solo blast as the Texas Rangers defeated the Seattle Mariners 3-2 Sunday in a Spring Training game in Surprise, Arizona.
The Mariners (15-9) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Mitch Haniger doubled in Guillermo Heredia before Taylor Motter scored on Tyler O’Neill’s infield hit.
The Rangers (9-13) tied it in the third as Gomez homered to left off Seattle starter Dillon Overton. Rua hit the game winner the next inning off Casey Fien (0-1).
Rangers starter Eddie Gamboa (1-0) settled down after the first and struck out six in five effective innings. Keone Kela worked the last two innings for his first save of the Spring.
Motter, Rua and Texas leadoff man Delino DeShields finished with two hits apiece.
