Smears without evidence

While accusing the Obama administration of wiretapping his residence, Trump alleged it was McCarthyism. Except he had the wrong person. He need only to have looked into a mirror to find he has become the protege of Sen. Joe McCarthy’s lawyer for the committee, Roy Cohn.

McCarthy’s unfounded accusations of communism destroyed the careers and lives of many American citizens. He was finally silenced when another committee lawyer, Joseph Welch, famously said to the senator, “Have you no sense of decency, sir?”

Cohn continued his legal career with attacks on his adversaries, which lacked many of the elements of truth. One of his clients was Donald Trump.

Trump appears to have learned from Cohn. From his false allegations of voter fraud to the latest wiretapping allegation, Trump tweets without evidence. Anyone who doesn’t dance to his tune will find themselves the subject of his next tweet.

As children, we all learned about the boy who cried wolf. The theme of the story was to teach us that lying was not good behavior and had consequences. Apparently, the book was not on Trump’s reading list.
