Size mismatches highlight Gonzaga-West Virginia key matchups

Gonzaga’s ability to deal with West Virginia’s press is the overriding issue in this Sweet 16 matchup.

But there are other matchups worth monitoring. The Zags encounter one of the tallest starting lineups they’ve seen this season. West Virginia starts three forwards, all at least 6-foot-8 and 225 pounds. That will probably force one of GU’s guards, likely 6-4 Jordan Mathews to matchup against 6-8 Esa Ahmad, who scored 27 points in a win over Kansas.

For all of the Mountaineers’ size inside in the frontcourt, they don’t have anyone close to the size of Przemek Karnowski (7-1, 300). Their starters will be at least three inches shorter than 7-0 Zach Collins.
