Jeremy Hansen plans new eatery in downtown Spokane

Jeremy and Kate Hansen are the husband-and-wife team behind a number of downtown Spokane restaurants and bars, including Sante - which they plan to close in 2019. Chef Jeremy Hansen is planning a new eatery in downtown Spokane.

On the menu: biscuits in the morning, sausage burgers at night, plus street food-style bites and hand-held walkaway smörgåsbord items.

Or, “something like that,” Hansen said.

There’s no word yet on when it might open or what it might be called.

But the plan is to locate in the spot that formerly held Mediterrano in the Saranac Commons building, 19 W. Main Ave.

Hansen owns another business in the building. Common Crumb Artisan Bakery is just a few steps away from the counter of the recently closed Mediterranean café.

Owned by Shahrokh “Sharo” Nikfar, Mediterrano opened in 2015 and offered gyros, housemade hummus and other Mediterranean-inspired dishes. It closed in early February after two years in business. Nikfar made the announcement on the eatery’s Facebook page, posting – on Feb. 9 – “I eventually ran out of resources to sustain it any longer.”

He cited recent road construction and the long winters as “major factors in the loss of business” as well as personal reasons.

Nikfar still owns Caffé Affogato, located just inside the front door of Saranac Commons.

“There are no regrets,” he posted. “I have learned so much and I have gained a treasure in the form of relationships and bonds. I also feel great that I made a difference for the better, in our community and ran a business based on principle, ethics and love. And now, I feel rich and excited for a future full of potential for new discoveries.”

Jeremy Hansen and wife Kate own Sante Restaurant and Charcuterie as well as the recently opened Inland Pacific Kitchen and Hogwash Whiskey Den – all located in downtown Spokane.

Their bakery, Common Crumb, specializes in artisan breads and pastries, including French macarons.
