Spokane Empire to host Salt Lake’s versatile QB Verlon Reed

The Spokane Empire (3-1) will host the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles on Friday at the Arena in the second of the teams’ three-game regular season series.

The Empire topped the Screaming Eagles 41-35 in the first matchup in Salt Lake City.

The Screaming Eagles (1-2) are led by quarterback Verlon Reed, who has completed 63 of 100 passes and has compiled 537 yards this season. He’s third in the Indoor Football League in passing yards per game (179.0) and passing touchdowns (15).

Reed is also the team’s leading rusher with 150 yards. Devin Mahina is the team’s leading receiver with 18 catches for 160 yards and six touchdowns.

Salt Lake features a unique approach to play calling, as fans vote on which offensive plays are called through the team’s mobile application.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday’s game is the first of a three-game homestand for the Empire.
