Spokane man accused of assaulting girlfriend is now accused of hiring hit men to kill her

A man in the Spokane County Jail since July accused of assaulting his then-girlfriend is now suspected of trying to hire at least two hit men to kill her.

Jason L. Grieb, 52, was charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder this week. His bond on that charge was set at $250,000 Thursday.

Grieb was first arrested on July 22 on charges of second-degree domestic violence assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. His girlfriend told police that Grieb beat her, burned her arm with a blow torch and pointed a shotgun at her while repeatedly threatening to kill her and her family members if he was arrested, according to court documents.

Police found a blow torch inside the home along with two shotguns, a black powder rifle and a black powder revolver.

The bond for Grieb, an eight-time convicted felon, was set at $75,000 in July. In August it was reduced to $60,000 and in February it was reduced again to $10,000 after Grieb’s attorney told a judge that Grieb’s home had been damaged in a fire and he was less able to afford a high bond. The attorney also said Grieb had developed health problems and was “dissatisfied” with his medical treatment in jail.

Meanwhile, two of Grieb’s fellow inmates came forward to report that Grieb had offered them money to kill his former girlfriend. One said Grieb offered him $10,000 while the other said Grieb promised $5,000 before stating he had no money and offered a truck or a motorcycle instead, according to court documents.

One of the inmates told investigators he was in court with Grieb sometime in September when Grieb commented that a man in jail for a DUI charge was being forced to wear an ankle monitor but he had “tortured” a woman “and I’m going to walk out of here.”

Grieb gave one the inmates his former girlfriend’s address and other identifying information, including a map showing the location of the home of her sister, according to court documents.
