Area baseball: California routs Cougars

Cameron Eden drove in three runs, Jared Horn worked six scoreless innings and California routed Washington State 12-2 Friday in a Pacific-12 baseball contest in Berkeley, California.

The Golden Bears (10-13, 2-6 Pac-12) got off to a fast start, as Jonah Davis’ two-run triple sparked a four-run first inning. Eden added a two-run homer in the third. Ripken Reyes hit a two-run single in the fourth and Andrew Vaughn singled in two in the seventh.

The Cougars (14-9, 1-3) notched their only runs on Shane Matheny’s two-RBI double in the eighth.

Horn (2-2) struck out four and scattered five hits.

Damon Jones (2-2) surrendered nine runs in 3 2/3 innings. Parker McFadden worked 2 2/3 innings of one-hit relief.

Gonzaga at Pepperdine: Gonzaga’s game at Pepperdine was postponed until Saturday because of a flight cancellation. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. in Malibu, California.
