March was second wettest on record

March ended as the second wettest on record in Spokane with 4.11 inches of precipitation.

In 2012, March saw 4.56 inches.

Since Oct. 1, Spokane has had 19.64 inches of precipitation, which is 9.13 inches above normal for the period.

The snowfall total for the season stands at 61 inches, well above the normal amount of 43.8 inches through Thursday.

Snowfall so far is in line with a pre-season prediction that La Nina conditions in the Pacific Ocean would lead to a higher-than-normal amounts by the time spring arrived.

Spokane saw its last measureable snow on March 9 when 0.4 inches fell at Spokane International Airport, the city’s official weather reporting site.

Weather records date back to 1881.
