Prep baseball roundup: Mead gets past University in 4A play-in game

Mason Wells struck out five over six shutout innings and Mead (9-12) eliminated visiting University (3-17) 6-0 in a Greater Spokane League play-in game to the 4A bi-district playoffs on Tuesday.

Kam Kinder went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Thomas McKenna scored three times for the Panthers, who turned four double plays.

Mead faces Walla Walla in district play on Thursday at 4 p.m.

3A subregional

Trent Sellers tripled and scored the eventual winning run on an error in the third inning and Blake Collier shut the door for a save as Kennewick eliminated visiting Rogers (1-18) 3-2 in a play-in game to the 3A bi-district playoffs.

Kennewick manufactured two early runs in the first inning. In the top of the second, Rogers answered with two runs to tie it. In the third, Sellers smashed a triple and later scored on an error.

Kennewick advances to play at Shadle Park in a loser-out game in district play on Friday at 2 p.m. The winner will face Southridge at 5 p.m.

District 7 2B

Northwest Christian 14, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 3: Jake Gray hit a three-run home run – the first of three consecutive homers and four total – in the first inning and the Crusaders (12-5) romped over the visiting Broncos (9-9) in a loser-out game in the District 7 2B playoffs.

Gunner Kuhl and Reed Loranger followed with solo shots, and later Tyler Magni launched a three-run blast.

LRS beat Davenport earlier in the day in a loser-out game.

Northwest Christian advances to face Asotin on Monday at 9 a.m.

Asotin 9, St. George’s 1: Devin Fry pitched a complete-game five-hitter and the Panthers (13-5) eliminated the visiting Dragons (10-6).

Asotin busted the game open with a four-run sixth. Braden Jagannath, Tanner Berzett and Noah Renzelman all had two hits for the Panthers.

St. George’s beat Tekoa-Rosalia earlier in the day in a loser-out game.

Colfax 8, Wilbur-Creston 2: Parker Huber struck out six over five innings and the Bulldogs (15-1) eliminated the visiting Wildcats (8-11).

Cal Gregory had a two-run single in an eight-run third inning for Colfax.

Wilbur-Creston topped Reardan earlier in the day in a loser-out game.

Colfax faces Kettle Falls on Monday at 11:30 a.m.

Kettle Falls 6, Liberty 5: Marcello Mendez hit a line-drive single to score Dakota Crumpler and the Bulldogs (14-3) eliminated the visiting Lancers (13-7) in a seventh-inning comeback.

Brogan Douse hit a bases-loaded, two-run single to tie the game earlier in the inning. Kettle Falls scored twice in the sixth and three in seventh.

Liberty beat Springdale earlier in the day in a loser-out game.
