Area roundup: Dustin Yates helps CC Spokane baseball split with Blue Mountain

Dustin Yates went 3 for 3 with two walks, three runs and two RBIs and CC Spokane (20-15, 13-9) beat Blue Mountain (17-23, 8-14) 12-1 to salvage a split of a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader in Pendleton, Oregon on Wednesday.

Ryan Byrd struck out 10 and allowed one run on seven hits and three walks and earned the win.

In the first game, Blue Mountain’s Cole Connolly pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings with five strikeouts and Nathan Pena picked up the save with 2 1/3 scoreless frames in the Timberwolves 3-0 win.

Yates went 2 for 4 with a triple in the first game and Jordan Ross added a pair of hits. Kade Woods allowed three runs – one earned – on eight hits over eight innings.

Softball

CC Spokane 19-15, North Idaho 4-13: Madilyn Naccarato hit two home runs with seven RBIs and the visiting Sasquatch (20-18, 11-17) crushed the Cardinals (24-10, 15-7) in the first game and swept an NWAC doubleheader.

Spokane’s Ashlynn Bocook went 4 for 4 with with a homer, four runs and 5 RBIs.

In the second game, Bocook went 4 for 6 with two more home runs and six RBIs and Naccarato went 3 for 5 with another two homers.
