A pilot was injured Monday afternoon when his plane crashed during takeoff at the Coeur d’Alene Airport.

Frank G. Gordon of Coeur d’Alene was the only occupant of the single-engine aircraft when it crashed at about 1:40 p.m., according to a news release from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office. The plane came to rest on a taxiway near Ramsey Road and Wyoming Avenue.

Gordon, 61, was conscious and alert when emergency personnel arrived. He received “obvious minor injuries” and was taken Kootenai Health, the release said.

Airport operations were unaffected, said Detective Dennis Stinebaugh, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

He said the cause of the crash is unknown, and the National Transportation and Safety Board will take over the investigation.
