Concealed pistol license holders to get expiration notices

OLYMPIA – Washington residents who have a concealed pistol license will get a notice from the state before their license expires.

A new law signed Wednesday that takes effect this summer requires the state Department of Licensing to send notices to concealed pistol license holders 90 days before it expires. Supporters pointed out that the state sends renewal notices for most licenses, but the department wasn’t doing it for concealed pistol licenses because they are issued by local law enforcement, not the state. The bill passed unanimously in both chambers.

The cost of sending the notices will be covered by money from the state’s Firearms Range Account.
