Speaker and date announced for the 2017 Women of Achievement Awards

By Caroline Hammett The Spokesman-Review

New York Times bestseller, Janine Latus, will be the keynote speaker for the 2017 Women of Achievement Awards hosted by the YWCA.

The topic of the address will focus on domestic violence by delving into the speaker’s personal experience, outlined in her book “If I Am Missing or Dead.”

The 35th awards ceremony and luncheon will be held on Sept. 28. Through this ceremony, the YWCA recognizes inspiring and influential women who devote their time to the community through leadership roles and generosity. This event is the association’s largest fundraising event of the year, according to the YWCA press release.

Seven awards will be given at the ceremony: Arts & Culture; Business & Industry; Carl Maxey Racial & Social Justice; Community Enhancement; Education; Science, Technology, & Environment; and Young Woman. Nomination forms are available online at www.ywcaspokane.org in print and electronic versions. The deadline for nominations is June 15.

This year, the Davenport Grand Hotel, 333 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., will host the luncheon. Registration information will be available soon at ywcaspokane.org. For more information, call (509) 789-9307.
