Prep baseball roundup: Mead, Ferris both eliminated from 4A playoffs

Troy Simpkins went 4 for 4 with two doubles, two triples and an RBI and Chiawana eliminated visiting Mead (10-14) 7-4 in the 4A Greater Spokane League/Mid-Columbia Conference bi-regional tournament on Thursday.

Marco Romero went 3 for 3 with three RBIs while Trent Simpkins went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two runs.

Chiawana plays Hanford in a loser-out on Saturday at Gesa Stadium in Pasco at 10 a.m. The winner will play Saturday’s Gonzaga Prep/Walla Walla loser later in the day for the second berth to state.

Hanford 10, Ferris 8: Gage Young hit a two-run home run and the Falcons eliminated the visiting Saxons (13-10).

Ryan Nix threw four innings of one-hit relief for Hanford.

Hanford led 8-4 with two outs in the top of the sixth when the Saxons loaded the bases for Brock Bozett, who tied the game with a grand slam.

But Hanford pushed two across in the bottom half on an RBI double by Brady White and held on to advance.

Idaho 5A Region I

Coeur d’Alene 10, Lake City 0: Jackson Sumner went 2 for 2 with a two-run home run and three RBIs and the visiting Vikings (14-10) eliminated the Timberwolves (12-10) in the Idaho 5A Region I runner-up game.

Jayce Bailey gave up three hits and one walk with five strikeouts in four shutout innings, while Carter Friesz tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

The Vikings put up four runs in the second inning and five more in the fourth. Bailey went 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI, Quinton Bunch drove in a pair of runs and Noah Mayfield went 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI.

CdA advances to a play-in game for a state berth on Saturday in Lewiston against Mountain View, the District III fifth-place team.

Idaho 3A District I

Kellogg at Bonners Ferry: The Badgers (18-3) eliminated the Wildcats (2-11) in the second-place game and earned a trip to state.
