The Dirt: Hospice building center in Coeur d’Alene

Hospice of North Idaho has started construction of a two-story administration and community building in Coeur d’Alene.

Young Construction, of Coeur d’Alene, is the contractor for the 15,000-square-foot project at 2290 W. Prairie Ave. It will be part of Hospice of North Idaho’s campus on property that also has the nonprofit’s Schneidmiller House, an inpatient skilled nursing facility.

The newest building will include office spaces for staff, a wing for grief and loss support groups and private counseling, meeting rooms for professional development, and a 200-person capacity community event room.

Architects West designed the building, which is scheduled to be completed this December.

Work begins on Valley schools

The Central Valley School District has launched construction of a new elementary school at Mission Avenue and Long Road, as well as work on a replacement for North Pines Middle School.

The new Riverbend Elementary, at 17720 E. Mission Ave., is a $19 million project by contractor T.W. Clark Construction, of Spokane Valley. The school is set to open in fall 2018.

Garco Construction, of Spokane, has started work on a $30 million replacement facility for North Pines Middle School, with that 85,000-square-foot building situated farther to the west end of the school’s campus. The district owns the 18.2-acre property of the school, which was built in 1949 and expanded in 1960.

Once the new middle school is done, the project calls for demolition of the old school buildings and reconfiguration of the campus to include sports fields near Pines Road. With a new address at 11900 E. Broadway Ave., the replacement school is expected to open in fall 2018.

The Riverbend project and North Pine’s replacement weren’t on the voter-approved $121.9 million bond in 2015 for multiple school construction jobs, but by leveraging a $20.8 million grant received last year, the district gained the ability to add them.

PayTrace’s payment gateway is used by merchants in health care, manufacturing, construction, parking, auctions, professional services and other industries. The company says it processes more than $22 billion a year.

As part of its expansion, PayTrace said it plans to hire nearly 50 workers this year.
