Roundup: Cheney rides Maddie Kallsen’s arm to district softball win over Pullman

Some shutdown pitching by Cheney reliever Maddie Kallsen gave the Blackhawks the time they needed to rally for a 15-8 victory over the Pullman Greyhounds in District 7 2A play on Monday in Cheney.

Kallsen entered the game with two outs in the fourth inning and the Blackhawks trailing 8-6. She fired 3 1/3 perfect innings, with half of her outs coming via the strikeout. That left plenty of time for the bats of Meghan Krants, Kara Johnstone and Logan Krants to get the offense going. The three players combined to go 9 for 11 with eight runs batted in between them.

Cheney advances to play at West Valley on Wednesday at 4 p.m. for district championship. The winner of the title game will play the Central Washington Athletic Conference’s No. 4 seed, while the loser will play the third seed from the CWAC.

Halley Ghigleri paced Pullman with three hits and an RBI.

Baseball

Cameron Bean drove in three runs, Grant Kinzer smacked a solo home run and Peter Schultheis drove in a pair of runs and scored three to power the Colton Wildcats to a 10-5 victory over Pomeroy in a 1B Regional tilt in Asotin.

The win sends Colton to State as the District 7/9 No. 1 seed. Pomeroy advances as the two seed from the district. Colton will play Odessa on Saturday at 10 a.m.
