Officer on administrative leave after being contacted by suspect, victim in reported abduction

Spokane Police have placed an officer on administrative leave after he was contacted by a suspect and victim in a purported abduction.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office will take the lead on the case to “ensure the integrity and transparency of the criminal investigation,” police said in a news release.

Police have not named the officer placed on leave.

Police received reports of a possible abduction just after midnight Thursday morning, the news release said.

Witnesses reported multiple people entered a residence near 1000 E. Courtland. They forcibly removed a female from the residence and fled with her by vehicle, police said in the release. Officers responding at the scene were unable to locate the vehicle or individuals involved.

About an hour later, one of the suspects, the victim and a member of the officer’s family made contact with the officer in question at his residence. Because the victim appeared to have sustained non-life threatening injuries, the officer transported her to a local hospital. He then contacted a supervisor.

Police did not describe how the officer was related to the person who appeared at his door with the victim.

Two men were arrested in connection with the incident, and the investigation is ongoing. Police Chief Craig Meidl will issue a statement about the case on Friday.

Police request that anyone with information about the case to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
