Iowa 2, Tacoma (AAA) 1

DES MOINES, Iowa – Jake Buchanan threw seven scoreless innings, leading the Iowa Cubs (19-21) over the Tacoma Rainiers (25-15) in a 2-1 win on Friday.

Zac Rosscup allowed a run, but got D.J. Peterson to hit into a double play with a runner on first to end the game for his first save of the season.

Buchanan (2-2) picked up the win after he struck out four and walked two while allowing four hits.

Iowa started the scoring in the first inning. After hitting a double, Jeimer Candelario scored on a single by Chris Dominguez.

After Iowa added a run in the sixth on a single by Mark Zagunis, the Rainiers cut into the deficit in the eighth inning when Seth Mejias-Brean hit an RBI triple, driving in Tyler Smith.

Rob Whalen (0-2) went eight innings in his first career complete game, allowing two runs and four hits to take the hard-luck loss in the Pacific Coast League game. He also struck out five and walked two.

Arkansas (AA)

The first game of a four-game series between the Arkansas Travelers and the Tulsa Drillers was postponed due to rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday.

Modesto (High-A) 9, San Jose 4

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Ricky Eusebio doubled twice as the Modesto Nuts topped the San Jose Giants 9-4 on Friday.

Arturo Nieto homered and singled with three RBIs for Modesto.

Modesto took the lead in the first when Jay Baum hit a three-run double.

After Modesto added two runs in the fourth on a home run by Nieto, the Giants cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Gio Brusa hit a two-run home run.

The Nuts later added three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth. In the eighth, Donnie Walton hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Nieto, while Logan Taylor hit an RBI double in the ninth.

Modesto southpaw Anthony Misiewicz (2-2) picked up the win after allowing two runs on just four hits over five innings. Opposing starter Matt Krook (0-6) took the loss in the California League game after allowing five runs and four hits over 5 1/3 innings.

For the Giants, Brusa homered and doubled, driving home two runs.

Modesto improved to 3-1 against San Jose this season.

Clinton (Low-A) 9, Burlington 3

CLINTON, Iowa – Dimas Ojeda had three hits and three RBI as the Clinton LumberKings topped the Burlington Bees 9-3 on Friday.

Down 3-0, the LumberKings took the lead for good with four runs in the first inning. Ojeda hit a two-run double en route to the one-run lead.

The LumberKings later added four runs in the second and one in the fifth. In the second, Nick Thurman hit an RBI single, scoring Nick Zammarelli, while Ojeda hit an RBI single in the fifth.

Clinton starter Brandon Miller (5-2) picked up the win despite allowing three runs and five hits over five innings. Opposing starter Sam Pastrone (1-4) took the loss in the Midwest League game after giving up four runs and two hits while only recording two outs.

Clinton took advantage of some erratic Burlington pitching, drawing a season-high nine walks in its victory.
