Area roundup: Top-ranked Oregon State sets Pac-12 mark in sweeping series from Washington State

Top-ranked Oregon State used 12 hits and eight Washington State walks to take a 14-3 victory and a sweep of the three-game series in Corvallis, Oregon.

Nick Madrigal slugged a three-run homer and had five RBIs for the Beavers (45-4, 27-3), who set a conference record with their 27th Pac-12 victory. The Beavers won all 10 of their conference series, seven via sweeps.

Corey Meyer had two of the Cougars’ seven hits.

Stanford 6, Washington 5 (10): Jesse Huet singled home the winning run with two outs in the 10th to send the ninth-ranked Cardinal (36-14, 18-9 Pac-12) to the victory over the Huskies (26-25, 12-15) in Stanford, California.

It was the final regular-season home game for Stanford head coach Mark Marquess, who had his No. 9 retired, the first number to be retired by the program. Marquess is retiring after four seasons as a player, five as an assistant and 41 years as head coach.

Softball

NCAA regional: Morganne Flores’ two-out, two-run double in the sixth inning snapped a tie and gave Washington a 4-2 victory over Michigan (43-13-1) in Seattle and a berth in the Super Regionals.

The Huskies (46-11), seeded sixth, will host 11th-seeded Utah in a best-of-3 series next weekend.

NWAC championship: Douglas and Wenatchee will play for the conference crown Monday at the Merkel Sports Complex in Spokane. Douglas needs only one win to claim the title while Wenatchee has to win twice.

Golf

NWAC championships: The North Idaho men’s team and the CC Spokane women’s team lead after the first round of the two-day event at The Home Course in Dupont, Washington.

The North Idaho men have a three-stroke lead at 3-under 285. The CCS men are fifth at 6 over. Bellevue’s Isaac Hall is the individual leader at 4-under 68. NIC’s Luke Logan is second, two strokes back.

The CCS women are at 20-over 236, two strokes ahead of NIC. Megan Cysewski of CCS leads the field at 2-over 74, good for a two-stroke lead.

NCAA women’s championship: Bianca Pagdanganan of Gonzaga, competing as an individual, shot an 81 and is at 17-over 161 and a tie for 85th place among 132 golfers at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest tops the leaderboard at even-par 144.

Stroke play was reduced to 54 holes when play Saturday was washed out by rain.

Northwestern leads team play by eight strokes. The top eight teams advance to match play after 54 holes.

Women’s soccer

Shadow 2, Union 1: Meaghan Bare scored in the first half then assisted on Tianna Helm’s tiebreaking goal in the 69th and Spokane remained perfect through four games in the Northwest Premier League with a 2-1 win over Twin City Union in Centralia, Washington.

Men’s soccer

Shadow 1, OSA FC 1: After the hosts took the lead in stoppage time, Dana Kowachek scored less than a minute later off a cross from Jared Davis to earn a draw for Spokane’s first team (0-0-2) in Tukwila, Washington.
