Juvenile suspect of convenience store robbery arrested after shooting in Spokane Valley Tuesday

A teenage boy arrested in connection with a shooting last week in Spokane Valley has been identified as the suspect in an earlier robbery at a convenience store.

The boy, who is 16 years old, allegedly fired at a customer at Hai’s Mini Market on 5112 N. Crestline St. at about 7:30 p.m. on May 14 after robbing the store of cash. The shot missed.

The same teenager was arrested early Tuesday morning after Spokane Valley deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 12100 block of East Cataldo Avenue, according to a police news release.

Another suspect, whose identity has not been released, was also taken into custody.

During the Tuesday arrest, police seized an altered .410 shotgun and a BB gun from the juvenile. The Spokane Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit followed leads and determined the juvenile was the suspect in both incidents, the release states.

Following up on investigative leads, the Major Crimes Unit established that there was probable cause to link the 16-year-old to the Hai’s Market robbery.

He is facing charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and drive-by shooting.
