Driver seriously injured in head-on crash near Medical Lake

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says a driver was hospitalized with serious injuries after a head-on collision Tuesday morning near Medical Lake.

The crash happened at about 7:15 a.m. on West Medical Lake Four Lakes Road, also known as state Highway 904, between South Craig and South Medifor roads. According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies determined an eastbound Chevy Silverado pickup crossed the centerline and slammed into a westbound Chevy Suburban.

The driver of the SUV was taken to a local hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, the release said. The driver of the pickup truck received minor injuries and was not hospitalized. Neither driver was identified.

After an initial review of the crash, deputies suspect the driver of the pickup truck was distracted. They don’t believe impairment was a factor in the crash. Volunteers were called in to direct traffic and the Sheriff’s Office said the road would remain closed until about noon.
