State tennis: Lewis and Clark’s Kyle Fager take third in State 4A singles

Kyle Fager of Lewis and Clark beat Justin Ong of Olympia 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to take third place in the State 4A boys singles tennis tournament at the Columbia Basin Raquet Club in Richland on Saturday.

Fager lost to Andrew Kabacy of Skyview 1-6, 7-5, 7-6(5) in a semifinal match earlier in the day. Kabacy went on to take the State 4A title, beating Derek Cho of Issaquah 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the final.

1A/2B/1B: Joel Cladera-Garcia of Riverside beat Taylor Fife of Klahowya 6-1, ret. in the State 1A/2B/1B third-place match at the Yakima Tennis Club.

Andy Simmerman of Freeman lost to Caleb Hardesty of Tonasket 6-0, 6-1 in the fifth-place match and finished eighth.

Boys doubles

4A: Edward Liu and Eric Liu of Mead finished second in the State 4A boys doubles tennis tournament at Hanford HS in Richland. The Lius fell to Andrew Chanthavong and Alex Calpaglu of Union 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

3A: George Johnson and Henry Johnson of Mt. Spokane lost to Jack Delafield and Hayden Clark of Lakeside 6-0, 6-1 in the first round of the State 3A fourth-place bracket at Kamiakin HS in Kennewick.

2A: Gregory Arthur and Don Ansenev of Clarkston won the State 2A boys doubles title, beating Darren Ma and William Zheng of Sehome 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.

1A/2B/1B: Andrew Jauhiainen and Connor Cremers of St. George’s lost to Josh Wah-Blumberg and Wilson Mosier of University Prep 6-1, 6-3 in the State 1A/2B/1B fourth-place match. The pair beat Jack Jorgenson and Micha Wibowo of Charles Wright Academy 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 earlier in the day to advance.

Girls singles

4A: Maddie Egan of Rogers beat Teagan Mach of Newport 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 to finish in third place in the girls singles State 4A tennis tournament at Columbia Basin Racquet Club. Egan lost to Jade Lancaster of Sumner 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a semifinal match earlier in the day. Lancaster went on to win the State 4A title match over Hannah Gianan of Camus 6-2, 6-0.

Brooke Fager of Lewis and Clark fell to Ali Topp of Olympia 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 in the fourth-place game and finished seventh.

2A: Bridget Calvert of Cheney lost to Faith Grisham of Columbia River 6-2, 6-0 in the first round of the fourth-place bracket.

1A/2B/1B: Rose Melville of Lind-Ritzville/Sprague lost to Bailee Wallace of Three Rivers Christian 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the fourth-place bracket.

Lauren Senske of St. George’s lost to Aleah Kert of Cashmere 6-1, 6-1 in the first round of the fourth-place bracket.

Girls doubles

4A: Kjersti Strandness and Brook Goodwin of Ferris lost to Nicole Knudtson and Elysha Fu of Union in the third-place match 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 and finished sixth in the girls doubles State 4A tournament at Hanford HS. Strandness/Goodwin lost to Misa Takami and Sophia Kissin of Hazen 6-2, 7-5 in a semifinal match earlier in the day.

Katie Smithgall and Randy Murock of University lost to Kaylynn Noyd and Anna Davenport of Wenatchee 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 in the first round of the fourth-place bracket.

2A: Claire Sinner and Lily Sinner of West Valley beat Natalie Thomsen and Rachel Faw of Quincy 6-3, 6-4 in the fourth-place match. The pair beat Sidney Balfour and Ava McIlvaine of Sehome 6-3, 6-4 earlier in the day to advance.

1A/2B/1B: Kendra Gady and Krystal Gady of Freeman lost to Hannah Singco and Isabella James of La Salle 6-3, 6-0 in the first round of the fourth-place bracket.
